Colors, Shadows, Light & Vision

1st-3rd grades

Fee: $12
Illuminate your summer! Mix colors using both paint and light. Use colored LED lights to make beautiful, moving shadow sculptures. Experiment with flashlights and mirrors to change the direction of light, and learn about your vision while getting an up-close look at a sheep’s eye.

Planet Earth

From the core, to the crust, to the atmosphere that blankets our planet, let’s explore Earth from the inside out! Start your own rock collection and make your own fossil model. Learn how water and wind shape the Earth’s surface and engineer a filter to clean dirty water.

Travel around the globe without leaving the planetarium! Journey back in time to learn about events that shaped the world today. Learn about different cultures, traditions, music, and art from countries across planet Earth.

Investigate cockroaches, worms, butterflies, and other interesting invertebrates. Learn about their amazing adaptations, their habitats, and the important role these creatures play in the natural world.

Explore the wonderful world of science one field at a time.
Biology: Compare and contrast life cycles and adaptations of different plants and animals. Explore the needs of all living things.
Chemistry: Investigate the chemistry in your kitchen while making butter. Make an environmentally friendly cleaning solution.
Earth Science: Discover the connection between the sun, water, and weather.
Astronomy: Work together to create a planet mural for the planetarium lobby and watch a show in the planetarium.
Engineering: See if you can engineer a nest as well as a bird can; design, build, and test a wind resistant building; and design a lunar vehicle.

Use air to make things move! Investigate aerodynamics while testing different shapes on model vehicles. Design, build, and test a sail car and experiment with film canister rockets.

The first Olympic Games looked a lot different than they do today. Learn where the Olympics have been held, games that were played, and records that have been broken. Try your hand at some of the original events and compete in our very own Longway Olympics!

Claws, jaws, skin, and scales: Animals are amazing! Whether predator or prey, animals have body parts that make them uniquely suited to survive in their environments.

Math-Nificent Measurement - SOLD OUT

Sharpen your math skills with a variety of creative and fun math games and projects. Use a balance and digital scale to measure weight. Use beakers and graduated cylinders to measure liquids. Make up an estimation game to share with your friends. Create and decorate graphs to display your data, too.

Maker Camp: Terrific Tools - SOLD OUT

Learn how to use tools like hammers and screwdrivers while building a toolbox. Put your new tools in the box and take them home to start your own tool collection. This camp will offer a variety of projects for builders to try.

The Place for Space - SOLD OUT

Play your way through the Solar System while creating your own space-based board game to take home. Use watercolors to make a beautiful picture of the moon while learning how the moon got its craters. Make a sunlight detector and engage in other fun activities that are out-of-this-world!
