History Gallery
The re-imagined 11,000 square feet history gallery features inclusive stories of Flint and Genesee County’s historical events, designed with the flexibility to frequently change displays that span from the region’s earliest inhabitants through history-in-the-making.
Admission to the History Gallery is included in a general admission to Sloan Museum of Discovery. General Admission tickets to Sloan Museum can be purchased at the button below, or read more about our ticketing and discounts here.
The gallery includes interactive stepping stones that activate a video or audio story told from local residents; a section about Genesee County's contributions to winning WWII, including an actual 1943 Hellcat Tank Destroyer; an interactive trading post and real native American artifacts; Flint's storied lumbering history; the last Buick LeSabre that rolled off the former Buick City's assembly line signed by the hundreds of workers who helped build it; popular culture artifacts like the beloved Bozo The Clown original costume and the basketball costume Will Ferrell wore in the Flint-based movie Semi-pro.
New in the History Gallery are augmented reality interactives. These interactives give you a deep dive into the Hellcat Tank-Destroy, Billy Durant, and Fair Housing in Flint.
