Distracted Driving Simulator

HANDS-ON INTERACTIVE

The Distracted Driving simulator emphasizes the important message of vehicle safety while driving.
The interactive exhibit asks visitors to drive a virtual vehicle while simultaneously texting messages to friends.
The resulting virtual accidents that occur have monetary “costs” assigned based on vehicle damage. Upon completing the course, visitors will see the costs of distracted driving as well as receive messaging on the dangers of texting while driving.

Soap Box Derby Exhibit

SOAP BOX DERBY EXHIBIT

From 1936–1997, thousands of Flint kids ages 11–13 built gravity-powered carts and raced them down the track at Cronin Derby Downs behind Southwestern High School as part of the city’s beloved Soap Box Derby tradition. Sloan Museum of Discovery honors that legacy in the Durant Vehicle Gallery with a racer built by Flint champion Steven Katz. Katz advanced to the national finals in Akron, Ohio, where he won the championship. The cart shown here was raced in 1960. The exhibit is made possible through Katz's generous support.

Featured Concept Vehicle

2006 Saab Aero X

This current featured concept car has not been seen publicly since 2006. The Aero X was created as a graphic answer to a simple question: What would happen if an entire car was dedicated to expressing Saab's heritage in a new way? The question was posed
by Bryan Nesbitt, then the Executive Director of Design for GME, and currently GM's Senior Vice President of Global Design since July 1, 2025.  Nesbitt wanted to explore the potential for developing a bolder, more distinctive design language for Saab
products.
