Magic Globe: A Story of the Seasons

On vacation at her grandpa’s, a little girl Mia accidentally discovers a mysterious piece of astronomical machinery. Edmund, Mia’s eccentric uncle, tricks the girl into using the tool’s secret powers to change the world’s seasons. She quickly realizes the consequences of what they are going to do, but Edmund doesn’t want to let the plan go. Magic Globe is an engaging story designed to interest and challenge children from 5 to 12 years old.

Skies Over Michigan
Show Schedule: Tuesday through Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
Longway Planetarium’s astronomy experts take you on a tour of the night sky over Michigan in this live planetarium lecture. Learn about the rotation of the Earth, how to find the North Star, and which constellations and planets are visible in your backyard tonight. Stargazers can come back to this show again and again to find out about recent astronomical events and for seasonal updates on what's visible in the night sky over Michigan. Recommended for ages 10 and older.

Serengeti

The Serengeti is home to most of Africa’s most iconic animals, and hosts one of the world’s greatest natural events — the annual wildebeest migration. Nature has orchestrated a perfect symphony in which every species has a very distinct role to play in the balance of an entire ecosystem. We’ll see it through the eyes of the youngest members of our animal cast as they imitate their parents, and learn about the mighty roles they’ll play.

Secrets of the Universe (premiering at Longway Planetarium January 18, 2023)
January 18 - March 24, 2023, Wednesdays - Fridays at 4 p.m.; Thursdays-Saturdays at 7 p.m.; starting on February 14, 2023, there will also be Tuesday shows at 4 p.m.
In Secrets of the Universe, show-goers are taken back to within a millionth of a second after the Big Bang. Award-winning IMAX documentary filmmaker Stephen Low takes audiences on an exciting science journey to Geneva, Switzerland, home to the massive Hadron Collider (LHC), the largest and most complex machine humans have ever built at nearly 17 miles around and buried 500 feet underground. Brilliantly executed computer graphics will illustrate the enormously powerful collider as protons rush at virtually the speed of light to a collision that duplicates the conditions around the start of the Universe. Viewers will gain insight how the 10,000 scientists from 100 different countries who are working on LHC are learning new theories about the nature of atoms which could lead to new clean energy solutions or other planet-saving solutions.
