First Friday-January

Join us Friday January 6, at 6:00 pm for a talk discussing why the Earth-centered view of the universe was so heavily favored for such a long period of time. We will discuss how the remarkably subtle differences between empirical and philosophical facts played a crucial role in these beliefs. We will look into the evidence provided by telescopes that the Earth is not the center of the solar system. Finally, we will examine a few of our own beliefs about our universe, long-held to be empirical facts, that turned out to be philosophical facts. The task of discerning an empirical fact from a philosophical fact turns out to be surprisingly difficult. Includes admission to 7:00 pm show.
